The gesso has arrived via FedEx today. We'll see how things go once I get a chance to try it. Results will likely be posted.
In the meantime, I'm wondering if any of you have favorite Windows-based software for doing maps of your various countries. I'm about to try out AutoRealms when I have the time.

While one can develop imoressive maps with the various software that's out there, you might consider drawing up something by hand. This doesn't have to be too fancy, but it can be qute effective.
Visit Phil Olley's website -- Phil's War Cabinet -- and click on his Pils-Holstein link at the top of the landing page. Scroll down to Phil's recently completed map. It's seriously cool and makes me want to redo my own that I cooked up last fall.

I haven't even considered trying to map Saxe-Bearstein . . . but if I did, I would use an old version of GameMapr that I bought several years ago.
There are undoubtedly many better mappers available today . . . but I look at mappers the same way that I look at word processors. Some are so sophisticated that the bells and whistles make it hard to figure out how to do something simple.
If you have a map program with which you are familiar -- and which will do what you want -- don't look for something "better" . . . use what you are already comfortable with.
